Seasteading Option 3.5: Cheaper Dedicated Residential Cruise Ships
Since I last wrote about the “dedicated residential cruise ship” on 9 Feb, looks like an even cheaper option has come to the market.
Life At Sea Cruises by Miray bought an old ship and is launching it as MV Gemini (formerly built in 1992 for a Spanish cruise line as the Crown Jewel). A 400 cabin cruise ship, approximately 1000 passengers, with a 3-year itinerary that goes around the globe to all 7 continents.
This is substantially more interesting to me than just the cost savings — at this price point, it’s going to attract much more interesting and diverse people than the more expensive (both cash upfront, and per-month cost) options from other cruise ships — at this price point it’s basically comparable to a city apartment and other normal living expenses for a remote-working professional or couple.
The people running it seem like credible cruise industry veterans, and the inherently-residential ship with lower passenger density, more long-term-resident friendly amenities, longer port stays, etc. is a substantial advantage over back to back regular cruises.
